Comcast Tech Falls Asleep On Guy’s Couch

We just moved from NYC to NJ and so our cable company is Comcast as well. Luckily for us our installation went very well and the guy who showed up was polite and professional.

I can totally feel this consumer’s pain though in that after all the problems he had with Comcast, the tech who finally shows up falls asleep waiting on hold for Comcast customer service!

The fight against AOL to cancel an account

This guy attempts to cancel his AOL account, but the customer service guy tries bitterly to stop him. Funny listen, its a good thing more people aren’t giving them business.

My guess is that the customer service reps get some type of bonus if they keep customers from cancelling. Once AOL found out about this, the guy got fired.

Macy’s installs iPod vending machines for those who carry around $300 in change

Macy’s plans to install 180 iPod vending machines — made by a San Francisco company — nationwide by fall, its chief executive said Friday.

This has to be one of the most stupid ideas I’ve ever heard of…I can just see it now:

“Mommy, mommy can I have $300 for the vending machine? I want an iPod”

First of all, who in their right mind is going to buy a $300 MP3 player from a vending machine. What’s next, cell phones and digital cameras?

Microsoft, Lenovo Launch “Pay As You Go” Computer

Microsoft Corp. and Chinese-based computer maker Lenovo said Monday they will launch market trials for pay-as-you-go purchases of computers in China and India. Consumers will be able to purchase a Lenovo PC for about half its retail price and pay off the balance over time by purchasing pre-paid cards from Lenovo.

Sounds like a good idea at first but they haven’t clearly stipulated what happens when your “balance” runs out? What if you run out of your balance in the middle of something important and you have no way to get a new pre-paid card at that time…will the PC allow you to save everything you’re working on? What happens if something is due? Worst case what if you only need 5 more mins to complete something and your balance runs out.

Should lead to some interesting situations for sure

Trade up your Treo 650 for Treo 700p and get $150 cash back

I don’t even have a Treo 650 nor am I going to get a Treo 700p but I have to admit that this on the surface at least seems like a very good deal.

Given that if you already have Treo 650 and want the new Treo 700p, you will most likely only need one – getting $150 for your old busted phone for the new hot stuff sounds too good to be true.

Use Skype to make FREE calls to any number in US or Canada!

Skype is a free software that can be downloaded onto your PC and lets you make free voice-over-ip (VOIP) calls to other people using Skype. Well that’s only half the picture, until now they also offered a SkypeOut service which let you make calls from your PC to any regular phone number for a fee. That fee has just dissapeared!

Yes. It is really very, very free. There’s no prepayment, no minimum use, no subscription, no monthly fee, no nothing. You just download and install Skype and then you start calling. Both the caller and the number called must be in either the US or Canada. There are no strings attached.

This is only good until end of 2006 so at least give it a shot before then. Again all you need to do is:
- Hook up a microphone and speakers to your PC. If you’re on a laptop, you just need a mic
- Then just download the Skype 2.0 free software and install it.
- Create an account using the software, login and start making free calls to US or Canada within seconds!

Post any questions or problems you have setting it up and I’ll try to help.

Canned Oxygen Goes on Sale at 7-11 Convenience Store

First bottled water and now….wait for it….canned oxygen! This is truly a sign of the times and I’d love to see what the ignorant people out there who don’t think we (as in the world) have a serious pollution problem think about this.

I wonder if they’ll eventually offer scented flavors?
